How many of us get up in the morning and turn up the thermostat to “take the chill” out of the room? What if you turned the dial and nothing happened because you couldn’t afford the high cost of heating oil?
For many the chill they will feel is just plain cold, the kind of cold that would force you to wear hats and coats and mittens inside your house or apartment?
That’s the situation thousands of our neighbors are finding themselves in this season.

Four decades have come and gone since we first began offering services to Rockingham County neighbors finding themselves in financial crisis. Rockingham Community Action’s promise was, and remains, to be a strong and effective leader in the areas of community action.
We live and work in your communities and you’ve told us that helping those caught in the struggle to find financial peace is important to you and your neighbors. A thriving community creates a healthy place to live, raise your family, and conduct business. We are proud of the work that we do in your neighborhoods and the contributions we’ve quietly made.
Educating adults and children, feeding families and elders, warming homes and providing workforce and career guidance are key in helping to grow the financial health and skills of Rockingham County individuals and families.
But RCA’s mission isn’t about maintaining poverty status; the mission is about providing the map that leads to health, well-being and financial independence.
Our vision of true community action is to pull together resources that strengthen everyone living in our county, our towns, and our neighborhoods. RCA has acted as lead in the formation of the Asset Building Coalition of Rockingham and Strafford Counties, a group of area businesses, agencies, educational institutions and individuals who are giving a voice to financial stability needs for low to moderate income residents.
We invite you to join us as we continue to create innovative ways to improve the well-being of our neighbors and to build on their financial wellness. Rockingham Community Action is committed to providing services with strong focus on the dignity of our clients, the integrity of our staff and the robust future of our communities.
